Subject: gas mileage question
Content-Type: text/enriched; charset="us-ascii"
Just wondering what type of gas of mileage folks were getting these
days? I know there was a survey done around 6 months or so ago, but was
looking for more info on conditions, type of motor, westy/non-westy,
etc.
If you reply, please describe what the conditions your averages are
obtained under, and grade of fuel etc.
Feel free to cut and paste for a uniform response protocol that
will be easy to compare others to.
Name:Vinnie
What:our 85 GL, 1.9L, 4-speed, Westy
Drivetrain: 32k on reman 1.9L motor with almost every sensor new,
hooked to a remaned tranaxle w/ about 6-7K on it.
Other engine stuff: bosch plat 4's, new wires, synth blend oil, new
AFM, aftermarket intake gizmo, getting new cat and muffler next week
Tires: Michelin XC4S's at 50 psi with 51k miles on them (with plenty
of tread left! - believe in rotation/balance!)
Extra load carried: with about 250-300 extra lbs of gear all the time I
would guess
Speed:consistent cruise of 72-74 mph (really accurate speed measured on
GPS, not the 77-78 one reads on the speedo)
Fuel type:We run 87 octane (r+m/2 method) all the time (and try to
pick decent brands <underline>if</underline> that matters!)
Fuel treatments: usually one bottle of Techron per oil change run
through the gas.
Terrain: on relatively moderate terrain
Other weather factors: with even a moderate (20-30mph) headwind or
crosswind.
Highway MPG: gets around 19.5-20.5mpg highway sometimes 21mpg. No idea
what 60mph would do for the mileage.
Under load: running ac (which was just recharged by my HVAC tech dad,
can you say R-12?) and/or mountainous terrain with a light load, we
were getting around 17.5-18.5 due to more downshifting required I
suppose.
Added notes: When it was really cold, he got 22-ish at cruising speed a
coupla times!
City mpg: Vinnie gets a few less per gallon around town but haven't
computed city mpg as often as highway numbers as he does highway most.
I think the last city calculation was around 17-ish I think.
FWIW- I've had VInnie to 84-86ish mph before and I think he had a
little more to go; but, red was approaching so I let off it!
Just wondering,
