---Fellow 'listers,

I have a "new" '89 Westy GL with power locks. My problem d'jour is that the driver's door lock won't respond to direct commands.

Let me explain:

1. Pushing driver's door lock down results in it popping right back up. 2. Locking the driver's door with the key results in it unlocking itself (and the rest of the car) 3. likewise for unlocking (it reverts to the previous state)

I had this problem for a while but it went away when I fixed the slider door. However, as I always say, "problems that go away by themselves, come back by themselves!" however,

3. either locking via pushing the lock knob or the key from the passenger side works as expected. 4. the sliding door and the rear hatch are very slow to respond to lock/unlock commands, if they do at all.

#4 was the problem I fixed. I bought a new four finger spring loaded thingamajig and replaced the old one and all my problems went away. The thingamajig is the part that attaches to the slider door. I took a volt meter to the system and found this was the weak link. It seemed to have a bad connection of some kind.
