I have two questions for the group:

#1
I need to replace the starter on my '87 Syncro and was wondering if someone
could provide some of the usual suggestions of how to do it easily the first
time. Or at least the "don't do this". I have read Bentley and it sounds
like more of a time consuming job than a complicated one, but then again I
have never done it. My buddy, the experienced VW mechanic, swears the
transmission mounts need to be loosened to ease access to the thing. Any
comment?

My neighbor inherited a '87 Westy from a family member in Florida and is
wondering what it is worth. Here are the details: 90K, engine has not been
rebuilt, platinum grey with grey interior, straight with very minor dings,
all appliances work great, alloys with good tires, interior and top is in
good shape too. Located in Seattle.
I figure between $8-10K, but I don't know the first thing about what is
valuable about a Westy besides what the classifieds say. My neighbor thanks
you in advance for your input. When they do sell, I'll probably advertise it
here for them, so stay tuned.
