While undertaking some recent rust through repair I came upon an ironic pamphlet in my glove box. It's a "Bilstein R2000" underbody rust preventative treatment receipt and brochure. It was applied by the dealer when my van was purchased by the original owner in '85. Bummer that I didn't know about it when I bought the van because it's the super-special-secret-transferable-lifetime-warantee version. Basically, the rules state that as long as I take the van to an authorized dealer for a yearly "inspection and spot recoating", which is free, they warrant against rust through for the life of the van. Not bad, except I haven't taken it in for any of these inspections since I've owned it ('92). Anyway, has anyone ever heard of this stuff? Do VW dealers still use it or is it just one of those classic dealer add-ons? Given that I'm doing rust through repair I'm guessing it wasn't particularly effective.....unless those "inspections" really served some purpose?

Mark
