Volks,

Regardless of the (mis)use of the Westy name, at least they are producing a pop-top camper in the similar style of our beloved Westphalias. I am still trying to forgive VW for pulling the Vanagon off the market. We know they had fixed the engine issues, via the South African version. If it was impractical to upgrade the Vanagon to newer safety standards, they could have given the Eurovan the same size interior.

When I buy a van, interior size counts for a lot. So, the next one may be of domestic manufacture. In fact, it would have been, but for the Waterboxer Vanagon. Please don't get me wrong, all of my cars have been VWs, and I guess I'll keep the Vanagon on the road as long as I reasonably can. Eventually I will be too old and creaky for a creaky old van, and maybe VW will have something worthwhile on the market by then...

Maybe I'll plunk down my money for a brand-new DaimlerChryslerMazdaVolkswagenChevroletFordToyota SportUrbanAssaultVanConvertable.

Oh, well, time for more Soma

Ron Antaki
