On my '89 Westy, the rear seatbelts hold the car seat better than my wife's previous car's did (a '92 Passat). In fact we had to do some minor changing to even make her new car, a '99 Beetle, hold the seat as well as my Westy did. I have found that fit varies tremendously from car seat to car seat. I even returned one car seat because there was in my opinion no way to safely secure it to Evon's Passat. The store let me bring a different one out to the car and the match between it and the seat design was much better. Trade in the seat before you trade in the vehicle.
