I have used my 86 Syncro to tow a parts Vanagon about 1000 miles with no
problems.  The hitch is a sturdy version of the type that bolts into the two
rear tow loops.

Just remember that it is even more difficult to slow down quickly than to
accelerate, so drive defensively.  Cpmpared to towing another 4000 pound
Vanaqgon, an under 1000 pound trailer should be a piece of cake.
