John, Sounds like you have a linkage problem to me - same problem I had a year ago and fixed by adjusting the master cylinder "pushrod." It is a pain to get to but, if you've got your system bled correctly, I'll bet you can fix it with this adjustment. My guess is you also have a big egg shaped hole in the linkage to your clutch pedal which attaches to the yoke which pushes the plunger down into the master cylinder. Good luck. Sorry I don't know all of the official names for these things.

I recently had a new clutch put in and i'm not sure if it feels like it should. The clutch doesn't start to engage until i've brought the pedal about 2" off the floor. After it starts to engage, there is only around 2" more and the clutch is fully engaged. Is this what a new clutch feels like on the vanagons, or should the clutch be engaging throughout the entire pedal travel? john 85 westy
