I've been on vacation these last two weeks so this response is a wee bit
late...

Last summer, I too replaced my thermostat (on my I4 conversion) with a
"cooler" one with similar results. But I have to add a couple of
observations...

1. Your gas milage will suffer abit in the cooler times of the year (and
Quesnel is a "little" bit cooler than Victoria in the winter).

2. I am concerend that the rapid and quite high increase in water temp when
going slow (under load) on logging roads is a sign of an partially fouled
radiator. I experienced similar symptoms in my van about 4 years ago and i
had the rad recored (possible with the all metal diesel rad). It made a big
difference.
