Subject: Thanks,coolant pipe

Thanks for helpful replies to my question on the coolant pipe. Much to my surprise it was available at the VW dealer in Juneau. I would like to replace it myself, but am a bit intimidated about bleeding the cooling system. The part number on the pipe is 025 121 281 G. Since the pipe sits down close to the exhaust system, but is low enough to be exposed to road salts, etc, is it worth trying to treat it with something to prolong its life? Does anyone have any experience or a previous post on replacing the pipe? For example the cap screws on my 86 Vanagon engine that attach the flange to the water pump look like they are allen type (they are quite rusted). Why don't they use regular hex head screws, and any ideas what the torque specification would be?

Thanks Jeff Hartman Juneau, AK jeffndeb@gci.net
