> Where have people sucessfully installed a third brake light on their > Vanagons? > And good brand name third light recommendations? i was fortunate enough to get a Hella extra brake light kit, years ago. it consisted of TWO brake lights that went into the corners (upper, lower, you choose) of your rear window. it was a small box which held a really good reflector and the bulb and red lens, a small-diameter tube (on which the box was clamped. the box could be moved/located anywhere on the tube, and had hex-head bolts to allow the box to be tilted .... so if the rear window was slanted/sloped, the light could be made horizontal), and two thin V-shaped gizmos that clamped onto the ends of the tube. the gizmos slipped UNDER the rubber gasket, between the rubber and the glass. it has worked really well all these years, and i've moved it from bus to bus. i wish i could still find a kit like this again! :( but now on the camper, i've decided on adding a couple of jc whitney 8" (or so) LED strips to the rear of the rear upper shelf (where the air conditioner return vent is). that should be visible through the rear hatch glass. i'm also thinking about adding some yellow LED strips to act as turn/directional signals up in the lower part of the rear hatch window, so those idiot tail-gaters can see my signals. :) joel |
