Hi Volks, Basic timing question here... What kind of performance issues (or any other issues) might I be seeing in my vanagon if my timing was way off? I have an 87 (2.1l) and according to Bently the timing should be set at 5 (+or - 1) BTDC. This weekend I noticed the timing was set at 5 (+ or -1) ATDC. Per an archived message from the list, I fired it up and disconnected the Idle Stablizer Control Valve, reved her up around 2000-2500 RPM, and reconnected the ISCV. Notch was now set about 1 - 2 degrees BTDC. I havent had a chance to drive the van since resetting the timing because I was testing a bunch of other Fuel Injection/Computer stuff, but just thought you experts could enlighten me on the timing part of things.
