I regularly see one around here, a dark red S'cab truck. It is the only I've seen ever. I do not believe VW themselves made the 4wd system. I know that the MB Sprinter Van, and its twin, the 2nd generation VW LT, gets their 4wd systems from the German factory Igelhaut, but I don't know what about the Vanagon-styled 1st generation LTs.
