Subject: New 15" wheels and tires for OTTO!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Just got my new 'summer' wheels and tires for my Westy Syncro. For anyone thinking of the easy upgrade to 15" factory wheels, the 5-spoke 'star' wheels from South Africa are the perfect way to go. A factory fit, and a great price to boot. I believe Ken Wilford ( http://www.vanagain.com ) sells these, although I bought mine from the source. (sorry, Ken!) These are 6.5 inches in width, with a 30mm offset, designed specifically for the Vanagon. They also use the factory alloy wheel nuts, and don't require a longer length wheel lug.

For tires, I purchased the Bridgestone Dueler A/T 693, 235/75-15, LT-C rated (6-ply rating) from The Tire Rack (1-800-445-0179). Nice open on/off road tread design, modern carcass, beading to protect the wheel lip. I think this is the largest tire that will fit without modifications to the body, and oh do they fill up the wheelwells nicely! With these wheels, there are no contact points at all. I'll let you know how they perform on pavement as well as offroad soon. Hope to see some of you at BBTA next weekend!
