In my case, it is Bonehead!

During my initial oil change on my son's Toyota Camry (which was to be the temporary replacement vehicle while my Syncro's heads are remedied), I put in 4 quarts of oil which seemed to overfill according to the dipstick. Then the transmission stopped functioning. I thought I had just lost the transmission!

It was pointed out to me that is exactly what to expect when you drain the transmission pan instead of the oil pan. It doesn't matter that they are almost mirror images, or that 3 quarts of drained transmission oil looks a lot like motor oil; it still is the wrong procedure!

Happily, after draining 7 quarts of old/new motor oil and replenishing it with fresh oil, as well as adding appropriate quantities of ATF, the Camry ran as well (and as boringly) as before. I even enlisted the aid of my brother to reinstall the stereo and re-connect the dash lights, so Detroit/Chicago is now firmly back on schedule for this weekend.

Also, the 2nd replacement vehicle, our 1981 Volvo, ran perfectly for a 600 mile jaunt this past Thursday/Friday.

Now, if the Syncro's head repairs go as well, then I will be flashing a big grin as I roll into BBTA for Labor Day weekend.
