Uh...too bad.  :(  You have almost surely the dreaded 3-4 busted
synchronizer and I advise you not to shove it in 3d or 4th until it's
fixed, because it just might not come out again.  There are several volks
on the list who can rebuild it for you, no doubt you'll be hearing from them.
