Well David (Marshall),

Have you ever driven one? The ones in Vancouver come from the Swiss army who changed their 4x4s. They now have their own swiss made 4x4. These Unimogs are in very good condition and were sold for about DM 500 - DM1500. They are underpowered and you are very intimate with the engine, its noise and its heat. The guys in Vancouver are experimenting with a Ford 6cyl conversion. If you want to have a real 4x4 get one of the newer ones. Check the Mercedes Benz website. The newer ones are a bit more costly though. Prepare to pay close to Can$100000 for a new chassis. A company in Vancouver is building a safari type camper for about $160000 including the Unimog.

There is on travelling down to South America right now owned by a swiss couple which is worth a couple of hundred thousand bucks. Well then you have over fourty gears, total differential locks, appropriate wading depth etc. which no other vehicle can match. Unimogs can drive circles and loops around and over any other 4x4 but be selective with the model and be prepared to pay a price.

Well, down to earth, stay with the Syncro. It's way more comfortable.

Björn
