Subject: Fuel Lines
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Today, Avery (wife number 1) and I replaced the fuel lines in the engine bay. I'd like to say that the kit we bought from Ken Wilfy was excellent. The hoses are original German stock and the Stainless Steel clamps will outlive us and the van. If you haven't replaced your high pressure fuel lines yet - DO IT NOW. You can't do any better than to buy them from Ken Wilfy.

While we were at the job, we replaced the rubber seals on the injectors - the one at the tip where it fits into the head and - the rubber ring against which the support bracket presses. The old rubbers seals were hard and brittle and the old rubber rings were swollen. The new ones, unfortunately, don't fit snugly. I had some difficulty making the injector support bracket hold the injectors firmly enough. Does anyone know a workaround to improve this support?

Larry P.S. I hate to admit it but Ken's printed instructions were invaluable.

Here is Ken's posting from last May: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In order to help encourage Vanagon owners to replace their fuel lines I am offering a fuel line replacement kit. This kit includes: 10 ft of high pressure German fuel line ($2.30 a foot) 20 Stainless ABA Swedish made clamps ($1.50 each) Shipping $7 to anywhere in the continental US. Total is $60 I will include a printed copy of the How-To replace fuel lines. Also available is an injector seal kit for an additional $4. If you don't buy this stuff through me (although I have tried to be as competitive with my prices as possible) please get the stuff somewhere and do these fuel lines. You could save your van from becoming charcoal briquette but, more importantly, you could save you and your family from possible harm. Let me know if you are interested.
