Alan, No, I have a 1.8L Jetta in my '82 ex-diesel Westy. I put the 3.8 in my brother's '80 brand-x camper after I put a 3.0 in my '78 Westy. The Vanagon needs a deck lift to do it, and it makes the bed a problem. We used Kennedy's conversion bits, and although they ran great, I wouldn't do it again. Since I have the I4 setup, I'll probably go with the Audi 2.0 next time. If I had a regular Vgon, I'd strongly consider a Subaru 4 cylinder.
