Chris,

I was at Hannover last year, you can get accomodations thru private individuals. I think they call it "hosts", it is alot cheaper than hotels (bed and breakfast). As for the food, try the sausages and there pork hocks plus the local beer brands (lowenbrau etc) . I was able to get parts only at a local vw dealer(expensive).
