My friend lives in Hannover and has rented out his place before during exhibitions. They have a huge exhibition area out there and they are making it even bigger as they prepare for Expo 2000. If anyone is interested, I can contact my friend and see if he is still doing the host thing. I can tell you he is a very good host as I just spent two weeks with him in April! Pmail me if you're interested.

Anyway, I also toured the VW factory in Hannover. It was fun to see them make the EV and the big LT's but I would have preferred watching them make Vanagons! There is some cool souvenirs at the gift shop but I felt there bus stuff was too limited in selection.

For other things to do, try the windmill museum just North of Hannover. It is very interesting and mostly a German tourist attraction so it is more laid back and less crowded. Also, make sure you do a Rhein boat tour with a few stops at castles. The other cool place is Rothenburg which is a medieval city tourist trap that is very fun. Especially the Crime and Punishment museum. You only need a day there.

The best thing to do is go to Amazon.com or another book store and get Rick Steve's Germany tour book. It worked great for us.

Chris,

I was at Hannover last year, you can get accomodations thru private individuals. I think they call it "hosts", it is alot cheaper than hotels (bed and breakfast). As for the food, try the sausages and there pork hocks plus the local beer brands (lowenbrau etc) . I was able to get parts only at a local vw dealer(expensive).

Hope this helps.
