Once the hardening on the gears wears through the process of destruction
is very rapid, and your trip could have easily been the last straw, or
last 10 bales actually! Maybe it is just the pinion bearing if you are
lucky, the last time I rode with a friend with a worn out ring and
pinion the noise was so loud at 50 MPH you had to wear earplugs!
