I'll get the video camera out tonight and take some photos. Mine are 225/60 16"' which is 225 x .254 = 8.8" wide and 26.6" tall which is the same dimentions as a 27x8.5" tire - there is LOTS of room left for a bigger tire - especially in the front.

There is a fellow who makes dune buggies here and he was saying that a custom rear trailing arm should not be that expensive...

On another note there is a Syncro in victoria with 33x10.5" 15" tires on it... they did some cutting and welding to the trailing arms but according to Randy F. on the mailing list, it has been done for quite some time now.
