Hi Folks,

I'd like some advice about a problem or potential problem with my 1986 Westfalia GL. I've experienced trouble shifting between 1st and reverse usually in a tight turn with a car or two waiting impatiently for me to get out of the way. Basically, the shifter would get stuck between gears. I had to kind of force it fairly hard to get into gear, and there was a little grinding when I let out the clutch. This has occurred about 3 or 4 times over the past couple of months. This weekend it happened again but now there is grinding whenever I shifted (at any speed, on the straight away) in all four gears. Is this bad news, e.g., new transaxel? I should mention that the shifter has rattled ever since I bought the van 2 years ago. Other than that she runs like a top. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Marty
