It plugs into the cigarette lighter and it has a spring clip that allows you to place it pretty much anywhere you want. I use it in the back to direct the A/C air up front most of the time. When I'm camping or just hanging out I'll move it to whereever is appropriate (for example, up in the pop-top sleeping area, outside to my chair, etc.). When it gets colder it's coming out of the van. When camping I run it off of one of those portable jump start batteries so I can run it all night without worrying about draining the van's battery.
