Subject: Trip report and saw Synchro 16" for sale.
Just came back from my Sweden trip. Had a nice vacation with a little
bit of touristing in Stockholm, some sailing on the west coast and
hiking in Norefjell in Norway and a few places in Sweden. The most
striking difference one sees is how clean the cities are compared
to the ones on the US east coast.
The mini van bug has definitely bit there also now, although the
market is dominated by Toyota and Mitsubishi instead by Chrysler.
On the VW side there were of course plenty of sightings. I was told it's
popular to go to Germany and pick up small used VW's. An early 90's VW
polo is for instance 30-40% cheaper in Germany.
It seems like the camper market has shifted to one size bigger busses
now. Some years ago I saw mostly T2 and T3 Westy's, while no I saw just as
many VW LT28 and LT31 based ones.
I met a German family touristing in their high top LT28 VW camper.
The LT28 is as long as a T3 Bus/Vanagon, but considerably wider, and
with the high top you have stanting height all the time, not just
when popped. The interior room makes it look more like a regular motor
home than the T3 camper. The owner told me he uses about 12-13l/100km
with the 6cyl Diesel. Not bad for the big box.
Just before I left I visited the FFV Overskott in Kviberg, Goteborg.
They had a lot of interesting vehicles on the lot. Plenty of T3's,
both synchro and 2WD, some Volvo "valps", one of the most capable
4x4 ever built in my opinion, a Steyr Daimler boxy 6x6 (pinzgauer?)
which looked impressive outside, but had little interior space for
such a big box. Most vehicles were around 10 years old and about
skr30000 ($4000). Perhaps the most interesting one was a Synchro 16".
This one had a dead engine, so they were asking only skr 10000 ($1300).
Otherwise drive train looked undamaged (These are used Tele company
vehicles, and are sometimes bashed up, but this one was fine).
A bit of seam rust and rust bet ween the grilles, otherwise body
was rust free. Maybe a good deal for someone nearby. Sorry, I
didn't get the phone nr. Just look it up in the Goteborg phone book.
