Cell phones are the real problem. While crossing the street in sedated downtown San Luis Obispo last week, I watched as a driver ran a red light without even looking at the intersection...he was involved with a deep conversation on his cell phone. If I had not been the one paying attention, I would be "flat" right now. Late tuesday afternoon I crossed the same intersection within the white pedestrian markings. There was a fellow who was stopped at the edge of the white line...and you guessed it...involved in a conversation on his cell phone. I stopped and carefully watched as I crossed. I guess the conversation got so "deep" that he forgot and took his foot off of the brake...just as I walked by. The car leaped forward, and I jumped back and I pounded both of my hands on the front hood to get his attention. I got his attention alright because he gave this "go to hell what is your problem look." The real problem is cell phones.
