Hi All,
I found out some more information about this German Dehler conversion.
Thanks to Per Lindgren, there is a very nice web site listed below. Sure
it's all in German but the pictures (too small) tell a 1000 words.
The van belongs to someone here in Rochester NY. The mechanics do not know
where to find parts and the owner is currently searching for parts on his
own. Are you a list member?
From what the shop has told me it is in need of carburetor rebuild and they
are searching for the rebuild kit. The carburetor is a "Pierreburg" <sp?>
Has anyone on the list ever seen one of these or know where to get a rebuild
kit?
The van has been there most of the summer and does not look like it will go
anywhere. I have not seen it because I have managed to stay out of repair
shop. - till now! :-(
I will take all the pictures I can and share with the list.
Thanks all,
Joel Cort

yo! mamma! can you say "expensive"!??? :) Dehler is a company in germany
that makes custom yachts (boats!) and they tried their hand at making custom
conversion vans. the ones i'm somewhat familiar with were the 86-88 models,
and had the high permanent roof, with skylights, and standup shower/sit-down
toilet in them. VERY nice. at the time, they cost 100,000DM or about
$60,000US!!!! :(

definitely worth taking pictures. i've never heard of one this side of the
ocean. seen the brochures (in german of course) and see one featured in a
german book about traveling across russia (yup. and before the collapse,
too!). that would be a really nice model to have .... until you had to fix
something related to the conversion.
i think Dehler is still making them, but i don't know if they are still
using VW's.

Dehler is still in business, I wrote in my previous mistake that they mostly
do FIATs, but I was wrong. That was someone else. Take a look at
http://www.dehler-mobile.de/ <http://www.dehler-mobile.de/> to see the
current line of Dehler VW campers or business vans (mobile offices), based
on both the Caravelle and LT. Unfortunately in German only.
