Are you sure your wiper switch replacement came from a van with intermittent wipers? I know at least here in Europe, the intermittent wipers were never standard equipment on all models. It was option on cheap Transporters in late 80s, option on most models in early 80s. tip: if you want adjustable intermittent wipers, just get the wiper relay from a Jetta III, and plug it in, Voila!
