Subject: Engine Conversions

O.K. I've read a number of people going on about various conversions. I'm curious about the performance, mileage etc. of the various conversions, please include what type/year of tranny you're using, and any difficulities that you've experienced as a result of your conversion. I'm especially interested in the diesel conversion stuff, and am curious where on this continent I can get ahold of a 5 cyl diesel. I live in the western U.S. some folks say canada, but I seem to get stonewalled whenever I inquire by phone. Is it illegal or something???? incidentally I ran into a fellow who claimed to import odd, albiet, older (15 yrs +) vehicles from Brazil by tossing the engine in the back, and declaring them salvage. He gets the vehicle up to his shop, and puts it back together, takes it to the state patrol, sweats through emmissions, and drives them away. I have seen him with a "Puma" on a couple of occassions, so there may be some truth to it. On the other hand he may be full of excrement too. The only warning he gave was to make sure you had a title of some sort when you go to the state patrol.

Also this service may be of some interest on the topic....
