Subject: Cell phones and GPS

I am concerned about the GPS craze. I have one with mapping. I can tell you that they are a real crutch. I have one that I use on my motorcycle and in the van. I have even used it with software (Street Atlas 6) on my laptop while riding in the passenger seat. This is a GREAT tool. Watching yourself travel down a road and looking at all of the available data is addictive. They are very much a distraction from driving. I am concerned what will happen when they become common options on new vehicles. There can be a steep learning curve.

Just imagine trying to using a new computer program while trying to drive. Who could scan in a picture with Photoshop, crop it, adjust the color, add filters, save the image, and print it out; all while driving down the road, and not be distracted? This is the type of distraction that will greet the new user.. Then the cell phone rings!!! <G>
