You really need to know what went into the rebuilt/remanufactured engines for a useful evaluation.

BTW, a rebuilt engine is one that is done as a one-off rebuild using its own refurbishable parts. A remanufactured engine is one that is done by a production remanufacturing facility. These engines come in as cores, are disassembled, and the useable parts are refurbished. The assembled engines have parts from many different engines in them, and are a combination of new and refurbished parts. No two are the same. I prefer the one-off rebuilt engine!

A top quality rebuild would include:

New (not rebuilt) heads and valves New lifters New cam Top quality new pistons, rings and cylinders, matched and assembled Rebushed, balanced (matched) and resized rods Reground (not just polished) crankshaft New oil pump OEM gasket set with OEM sealant All corroded case studs replaced (probably most of them) New cam, rod, and crank bearings Careful examination of case and align boring if needed

I would expect this engine to last as long as the original with proper maintenance.

Most rebuilders don't do this, they use rebuilt heads and used valves, used oil pumps, reground cams, polished cranks, aftermarket gasket sets, leave the corroded studs, and make other compromises to keep costs low. Each compromise reduces engine longevity.
