I posted last week about almost being injured as a pedestrian by drivers who compromised safety by driving and tlking on their cell phones. Several interesting comments came from that topic. I called the office of my state assemblyman Jack O'Connell on friday to discuss this issue.

I understand that here in California legislation has floated on the floor about this very issue, but has since disappeared [many powerful lobbyists in Sacramento]. I wish to put together a comprehensive proposal that investigates many ideas about this issue...just to see what is reasonable and feasible and what is not. If any of you wish to add your thoughts please e-mail me privately.

I would like to confess that I am not one who thinks that every situation in life needs regulatory measures. Many people including myself need to utilize communication devices while we are on the move. Time is important in today's world. It is just that these devices are so new that maybe we don't know how to use them safely in vehicles. I wonder how many forests that cave men & women burned down before they got the hang of using fire?

I wish to end this thread in this newsgroup because it does seem a bit off topic...so once again e-mail me with your ideas.

regards,
