Subject: Front diff lock revisited.

Yup, as the subject says, I finally found the time to take a serious look at the stuck diff lock, and get it loosened up, so it will probably work again :-) But, as usual, things didn't go perfect this time either. The servo unit was good, so was the lines, no leak there. The reservoir started hissing when I disconnected the vacuum lines. The shaft even loosened without any problem, once I applied some penetrating oil to it.

The small problem was that the pin that connects the servo to the shaft fell off when I pushed it out, and it disappeared! Just gone, I looked all around the van, and under the van, I examined every square millimeter of the frame and the front diff, but it was gone! I started cursing a bit, but quickly understood that it wouldn't help. I'll take another look tomorrow when the sun is shining again. The only place I believe it could have placed itself was behind the flange to the cvjoint. I turned the axles around several times, I tried to look, but no luck.

The big problem is that I had no replacement available, and this happened on a Saturday afternoon. No hardware store open at that time, and none open on Sunday, either. If I don't find the pin tomorrow, I will have to wait until Monday before I can assemble the parts again. Really disappointing, and no new off-road experiences this Sunday!
