I had two remanufactured engines installed (not at the same time!) in 1998. When the original engine in my van packed it in after eleven years in August '98, I had a remanufactured engine installed immediately thereafter. Unfortunately, this engine developed some internal knocking about a month later. After some investigation, the dealer decided to have the engine sent back to Toronto for repairs which would have left me without a vehicle for an undetermined length of time. My trustworthy, local independent VW shop (who installed the first remanufacture) went to bat for me and convinced the dealer to replace the engine with another remanufactured unit. It was installed less than a week later and has been running fine since then. One minor problem though...the engine replacement has resulted in an intermittent rattle apparently due to the tight clearances between the exhaust system and the tow bar. The dealer has attempted to track this one down but because the rattle is not consistent and occurs only when the vehicle is moving, it's difficult to pinpoint the source.

And, yes, there is a one year/12000 km warranty on the remanufactures.
