Subject: Problems with my 1.6TD Conversion.....
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Hello everyone,

I just finished installing a 1.6TD motor into my vanagon, and I am having some problems with it. First the history of what I have done. The motor was from an 85 Jetta TD. The engine ran great before I pulled it, but I wanted to ensure some years of trouble free operation. I rebuilt the bottem end (rings/bearings/seals), and installed it in my van. I timed the motor & have rechecked it. Here's what is does; the engine will start & runs very rough. There is tons of smoke bellowing out as well. I can rev the engine up, but can't bear the black smoke. It will also stall when I let off the throttle after revving it. The fuel in the Van is over a year old, but diesel should last longer than that I am told. Ang suggestions? (I don't have access to a compression tester either)

Jason
