Upon closer inspection, I see that what has broken is the semi-circular shaped brass stem that the knob slips onto! THAT is what is free spinning; the half-moon shaped stem has broken off at the base of the stove switch. There is a thin long blunt needle-like projection coming out of the base of the stove switch; it goes into the brass stem; the brass stem is spinning freely on that needle-like thing. Obviously I've ordered the wrong part. Don't need a knob, it's the mechanism the knob is attached to that is broken. Where do you suppose I can get parts/repair for that?
