To answer that question one would have to know what is going to break in the next few months. If nothing breaks you dont need either manual. The Bus Depot has the water cooled Haynes for about $25. That one covers pretty much the same type of info you will find in the "typical" Haynes written for other vehicles. If you intend to send all "major surgury" cases to your local shop that may be the only manual you ever need. If you are going do the work yourself though you may as well spring for the Bentley now. I paid $85 for mine and it has been the best investment I ever made. Save 2 hours of shop labor costs and you have broken even, after that you are saving money. In the 5 years I have had my 83.5 Westy I figure I have saved a couple of thousand bucks in labor. Before you buy it though drop in to your local library. Mine had TWO copies of the Bentley!

Here I sit with my "new" '90 Vanagon Carat and I want a manual to keep this fine beast running. Besides the $70+ VW Bentley manual (which I know I will have to purchase at some point), is there a more reasonably priced alternative I can live with for a few months? All I can find on the Internet bookstores is a Haynes manual for the earlier air-cooled subspecies.
