Subject: Expansion tank leak - 1.9L Wasser
Content-Type: text/plain

On my 1985 Crewcab, the expansion tank has developed a pinhole, which is spaying my entire engine with a nice coat of coolant. Kinda looks like I went crazy with Armor-All! It actually started leaking over a month ago, with coolant dripping down from both heads. Being a Vanagon owner, I immediately assumed the worst and figured (without even opening the hatch) that my head gaskets must have popped. So I parked it and drove the Honda. Last night was the first chance I got to take a look at it since July!

I'm no expert on the wasser, but is has me wondering. Do you guys think the tank just went? Or maybe the cooling system pressure go too high and popped the tank? I was also thinking if the pressure go too high, it would eject the coolant level sensor from it's cheezy threads in the tank. I may be overthinking this a bit much.

Anyways, I guess I'll price the tank, a new sender and o-ring at the (gulp) dealer and via the Bus Depot.

Take care, TomC tcarrington@relitech.com http://volksweb.relitech.com 85 Vanagon Crew Cab 82 Westy diesel=>gas conversion 65 Notchback
