Maynard,

I think you solved it for me. The passenger van middle seat position is to the left, where the shorter front track would be fixed. As you said that allows an easier installation to align the rear track, slide, then the other one would match. The shorter track is just the length of the seat.

In the westy the seat position is on the right side (door side) of the vehicle, so both tracks need to start at the door, like on Larry Johnson's.
