This reminds me of a news story from a few years back about a British student who had been appointed Poet Laureate to a group of 33 South Pacific islands know as the Republic of Kiribati. The student read about the islands in a magazine in his dentist's waiting room, but had never visited them. He nevertheless wrote to the government, and sent them a poem, seeking a position. He was astonished when the government wrote back with the Poet laureate offer, which he accepted. The government informed him that his pay woulod be nominal, but that they would build a hut for him upon his arrival. The student, Daniel Wilson, said, "Nothing will keep me from going there." Here's the poem that won him the position of Poet Laureate: I'd like to live in Kiribati I feel it is the country for me Writing poems for all the people Underneath a coconut tree. Happy friday...and never underestimate the value of just giving it a shot. steve Alan Bosch wrote: > > Darrell wrote: > <<<snip>>> There once was a man, bought a vanagon > People said it became a shananagon > 'Cause he stayed up all night > Posting questions 'till light > On a website veedub went and banned again<<<snip>>> > > Just imagine, we're here to witness such greatness... :o) > > Alan Bosch > & Phred ('88 Wolfsburg) |
