Subject:      Questions on propane valve leading from tank

I have a Hydroflame propane furnace installed in my vanagon.  Tonight when I
walked by the vehicle I noticed the furnace was on and that my 8 year old
had turned on the thermostat switch.  Much to my surprise the main valve
leading from the propane tank was turned off, which should have prevented
any propane from combusting in the furnace.  It was pumping out a normal
amount of heat and the van had probably been a nice and toasty 70 degrees
for the last several hours.  I assume that this means that I have a faulty
valve that isn't really closed when it appears to be turned clockwise to the
point that it will not go any further.

Do any of you have some experience with these types of valves? Are there
vendors that you are aware of that might help me find an acceptable
replacement?  I do not trust our local propane service shops here in Juneau
and they charge about $65 per hour for the simplest of diagnostic checks.
