This is related to the thread about whether you should depress the accelerator before starting with a FI engine.

The answer was, "no".

Well, that's OK, for you folks who never spent 20 years driving a "Bay Window" where you had to step on the accelerator once to release the choke before starting. So I had been stepping on the accelerator once before starting my '85 Westy, Herbie, to us, and was just fine with it. It started great every time and I never knew the difference. Then.... all the talk on the list and I discovered that I didn't need to do it, not that it hurt anything, but it was unnecessary! To me wasted effort is the ultimate sin, so I have been trying to break the habit.

I am happy to announce: "My name is Jim, and I am a former step-a-holic". Today, I started Herbie a bunch of times and I didn't step on the accelerator once! I did think about it once, but was able to resist.

Thank you all for your help in overcoming this addiction....
