I mounted my spare for the first time last summer. It had set merrily cooking behind the radiator for over three hundred thousand miles. It lasted about ten before it started disintegrating, heaving chunks of itself at the inside of the right rear wheel well. Actually only lost the area that was behind the radiator, but it wasn't balanced too well after that.
