Subject: SUMMARY: drive 1/4 mile and dies
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Original problem description: > Problem is this: after driving 15 minutes or so, the van > ('86 water cooled vanagon 2.1l) hiccupped and lost power. > It started up just fine again, drove a 1/4 mile, and died > again. Same thing all the way back home. No problem starting, > runs fine for a 1/4 mile, then hiccups and dies.

Actually I've been told (since I wasn't driving at the time) that it would never completely die, it would sputter and cough and lose all power.

Upon several member's recommendations I changed the fuel filter. I went for a short drive afterwards and the problem seems to be resolved. I guess I'll know for sure on the next longer drive.

Other possible causes that were suggested:

- fuel pressure (pump or regulator) - bad O2 sensor - bad temperature II sensor - grounded O2 sensor circuit (coax wire shorted) - loose or disconnected O2 sensor ground - clogged up catalytic converter - faulty ignition switch - gas cap plugged up (but mine is not ventilated)

Hope these summaries help those who manage to find them in the archives.

Thanks to everybody! Darie '86 multicolour Westy
