I towed my vanagon home from where I bought it (about 15 miles) with one of
those nylon tow ropes hooked into the towing eye under the front bumper. No
trouble! I believe you are supposed to unhook something before you tow it
though. Maybe it was the ecu? don't remember. Bently says manual
tranny-50mph for up to 50 miles ...auto.tranny 30mph up to 30 miles.
