BTDT! I also started hitting the dash. I had to drive home in 2nd for about 6 kms.

It is caused by the little collar with the set screw that keeps the spring down. There is a small dimple in the lever for the set screw to sit, this is the weak spot! If you go out and replace the shifter, 4-speed and Syncro are the same, 5-speed are different.
