In my unending search for the worth of a westy here's a quick comparison of values for three westies by Kelley Blue Book <kbb.com> and NADA <nada.com>

N.A.D.A Kelley

84 westy, 100,000 miles $3,800 $6,400 89 westy syncro, 75,000 miles $8,000 to $11,400 $19,015 91 westy syncro, 75,000 miles $10,280 to $13,950 $22,800

These are prices from their web pages. Banks and insurance companies have all quoted a lower NADA value than the NADA web page which is dramatically lower than Kelley.

To date I've not found any of the ten banks contacted using or even hearing of Kelley Blue book. They all use NADA. Same thing with the insurance companies. All use NADA. Contacted NADA's California office about pricing on vanagon campers and they said they no longer price them. Also never heard of the "syncro"......

Talked to a salesman at a local VW dealer and he'd heard of Kelley but they don't use it.

Lesson to be learned...... Don't let trees fall on your westy!
