The water runs into the holes and onto the roof and out around the edges of the luggage rack, which filters out all the solids and leaves them sitting on the roof under the rack in case you wanted them later. If the trim strip around the edge of the rack has chafed the roof so it rusts, some of the water may drain through the pinholes and warp your headliner.
