If the latch is only partly seated the latch pin will stick out at the back. If you remember to check the pin every time you latch it, should be ok. I've thought about a warning light for the thing, but not gotten around to it. Incidentally you can reach back from the driver's seat while driving and feel that the pin is seated, in case you have any sudden paranoia..
